How RS came to be
Rogue Squadron was formed by four original members almost 3 years ago. Maverick, Blondie, Strato and Jay were part of a massive gaming community before it all began. After many months of playing under another tag, a not-so-literal bomb-shell hit the clan and ended in the banishment of Maverick and Jay, and the the residual quitting of Blondie and Strato. From the burning wreckage of this gaming community, we decided it was time to take matters into our own hands and bind together to form our own clan. After many nights spent in an abandoned teamspeak server that we called home, arguing about what clan names and tags sounded good or dumb, we decided on a name. Rogue Squadron. At first there was no website, forums or game servers but only a 10 man teamspeak we purchased after someone shut down our ‘rebel hideout’ of an abandoned server. Originally, Rogue Squadron was founded as a Guild Wars guild in August 2005. Eventually Maverick got back to his roots and began playing Counter-strike Source. Frustrated by having to download add-ons and sounds every time he joined a server, he went and bought his own in December 2005. Eventually, after many nights of playing by themselves and with bots, the public began playing in our server. The build up of more and more people eventually led to people asking to join. We soon realized that no clan was complete or even functional without their own website and forums. After running a ‘mediocre’ site for a few months it was time to upgrade to something better; a professionally designed web page. Designed by Innate Media Group, RS V.2 was born. From Rogue Squadron’s original 4 casual founders (of which 2 remain) playing Guild Wars, we expanded to a large 30 something dedicated players, and into Counter-Strike: Source and Battlefield 2 within a matter of months.
Currently Rogue Squadron is running two Counter-Strike Source servers (one public and one private) and one Team Fortress 2 public server. //RS has always and remains looking for extraodinary gamers and people to add to its ranks.
The history of the fictional ‘Rogue Squadron’ from Star Wars
Originally founded by Luke Skywalker shortly before the Battle of Hoth, Rogue Squadron was formed from a loose group originally called Rogue Flight. Rogue flight, originally consisting of Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, Wes Janson and Zev Senesca was simply a group of men bound into an expert flight unit in a time of war. Soon, the newly forged Rogue Squadron had to add a number of new members to it’s roster to carry out the evacuation and defense of Echo Base on Hoth.
During and between events and battles from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ up until the Battle of Endor in ‘Return of the Jedi’, Luke and Wedge traded off leadership of Rogue Squadron. The elite X-Wing fighter group flourished with new members such as Tycho Celchu. However, following the high casualties of the Battle of Endor, Rogue Squadron was formally dissolved and it’s surviving members reassembled into other remaining fighter groups.
Only until about 4 years after the Battle of Endor was Rogue Squadron re-formed under the command of Wedge Antilles. To combat the forces of Ysanne Isard, Wedge built up the most spectacular fighter group that the New Republic had ever seen. Formed with members like Corran Horn and Gavin Darklighter, this elite unit almost literally ‘did the impossible’, as it was jokingly famed for. As war raged on and the dissolving empire broke down into warlordism, the Rogues were called in again and again to do that which nobody else could.
Many years following the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’, Rogue Squadron still (fictionally) strives and thrives as the best tactical fighter group of the New Republic.
